Owner at Mongrain Moore Consulting, LLC
1998 - Present | Missoula MontanaWhen a hotel is going through significant changes (new ownership, management vacancies), I work with key personnel and stakeholders as a bridge to sustain and improve the day-to-day operations and sales & marketing efforts. What is the goal? To protect the asset and assure that change does not negatively impact revenues, employee retention, and guest satisfaction. Face it... Change is inevitable. I offer you the skills and experience to ensure that change is an opportunity and not an obstacle. For more information, visit http://www.mongrainmoore.com

Director of Sales and Marketing at Hilton Garden Inn Missoula
June 2007 - May 2011When I joined the team, the Hilton Garden Inn was new to Western Montana and still looked upon as something of a community outsider (new hotel, geographically apart from the community core, unknown ownership). Our professional AND personal challenge was to fold this hotel into the heart and soul of Missoula. According to many accounts, we succeeded! How? First, by getting the management/sales team out from behind the phone/desk/eMail and putting relationships first through volunteering, creating opportunities to 'take the hotel to the community, not wait for the community to come to the hotel', creating positive professional relationships with competitors, personally reaching out to clients and community leaders in their times of successes and times of need. Second, by leading the local hospitality community through anticipating and successfully putting to work the power of social media and other web-based tools in order to drive market prominence, customer loyalty, and economize marketing budget dollars without negatively impacting effectiveness. Through various approaches that combined the best of traditional business practices with emerging sales/marketing techniques and attention to relevant metrics, we established a dominant presence in the market and successfully directed the growth of ADR, RevPAR, contract, transient, and group businesses.

Food & Beverage Director, Director of Sales & Marketing, Director of Catering at HEI Hotels and Resorts
1989 - 1997Throughout my years with HEI Hotels, my focus was largely on directing Food & Beverage operations. And, oh how I loved working with the Chefs, banquet teams, service staffs, maintenance teams, and (believe it or not) health departments. I may be somewhat of a hotel-industry oddball, but my F&B experiences are probably my fondest in the hotel industry, especially during the mania and stresses of so many property takeovers and openings. Food and beverage combines so many important components: Creativity. Discipline. Aggressiveness. Training. Forecasting. Negotiations. Public Relations. Marketing. Human Resources. And, even Politics. Suffice it to say, a key skill that should be at the top of the list when considering a candidate for F&B Director should be "juggling"! (Just a suggestion...) I think my strongest contributions to any transitioning operation are (1) Salvaging as many team members as possible by identifying key strengths and traits and putting the right people into the right job with the right tools; (2) Recognizing and reversing losses (whether it's purchasing procedures, inventory waste, cash handling, misappropriation of resources, and the like) and then "stopping the bleeding"; (3) Bringing a troubled property out of the shadows and establishing it as a prominent and active participant in the community.
